the easy way Getting Started Go to www.google.com, click on “more” at the top of the page, then click on “sites” in the drop-down menu. Online Help On the Google Sites log-in page, underneath where it says “Thinking of creating a website?” there is a “Learn more” link. Click that for all kinds of online help, including a brief introductory video. Google Accounts If this is your first time using any of Google’s advanced features (not just the search engine), you need to create a Google account. On the right side of the Google Sites log-in page, you need to click on “Sign up for Sites.” Creating a Google Account You need an email address to sign up for a Google account. – If you do not have one, ask your teacher or Mrs. Walker to help you get one. Type in your email address & create a password that you will remember. – Make sure that neither the “remember me on this computer” box nor the “enable web history” box is checked. Type in the funny word, and click the “I accept” button. Logging In If you already have a Google account, simply type your email address and password to log-in. Make sure the “remember me” box is NOT checked. Creating a Site Click the “Create site” button and give your site a name. Do not check the box for mature content. Decide who you want to be able to see this site. Choose a theme. Type the funny words again. Editing the Home Page Give your homepage a title. Start typing what you want to type in the text box-- similar to if you were putting it in a document--with headings, formatting, etc. Assignment Requirements Don’t forget to refer to the assignment sheet and the rubric to make sure that you are including all of the things you need to include. If you lose any of the assignment sheets or the rubric, you can access them from the Media Center “Class Projects” page. – You can also refer to Mrs. Walker’s sample site: http://sites.google.com/site/lewisandclarkmeetthes hoshone1/ Advanced Features You should be able to create a good website without having to use the “More actions” button or the “Site settings” button, but if you want to see what each of those will do, play around with it. Just don’t delete your website once you get started, because you won’t be able to make a new one with the same URL. More Advanced Features You can decide if you want all of your sections on one page (like Mrs. Walker’s sample site) …OR… You can create separate pages within your site--one for each of the sections. Beware: this will be more work! Plus, you will need a lot of graphics to fill space.
