Aurora, Colorado 80012

CONTACT: Lieutenant Chuck DeShazer DATE: January 30, 2011

NATURE: Fatal Auto/Pedestrian Collision

CASE NUMBER: 11-3794

On January 30, 2011, shortly after 2:30 AM, Aurora Police and Fire Rescue responded on a
“man down” call near East 1st Avenue and Havana Street. Arriving units found an adult male
lying in the street over 500 feet south of 1st Avenue. The man identified as, Royce Wallace,
41, was immediately transported to a local hospital with severe injuries. Mr. Wallace
succumbed to those injuries at about 5:45 AM.
It was determined by officers on scene that Mr. Wallace had been struck by a motor vehicle.
Investigators from Traffic Operations responded and began an investigation. It was
determined Mr. Wallace was crossing S. Havana approximately 500 feet south of the
intersection with 1st Avenue. He collided with an unknown vehicle which was southbound in
the #1 lane (the southbound closest to the middle of the roadway). This vehicle left the scene.
The only witness is the person who reported finding Mr. Wallace in the street and did not see
the accident occur. It is not known how long the collision occurred before Mr. Wallace was
found. Investigators will now begin the difficult task of attempting to identify the vehicle
from what evidence was left at the scene.
