Information For Driving Learner: Age Limits Learner Permit
just completed my driving license behind-the-wheel test - commonly known as the 'try'. The
process is a lot better than many other government organizations, however it does have room
for improvement. The staff is generally helpful and not disrespectful. They have to deal with a lot
of 'sifarsh' culture, and it was refreshing to see many sifarish cases not being entertained. The
candidates need to submit their "file" between 8AM and 9AM on Tuesday, Thursday and
Saturday. The test is conducted the same day. The file comprises the learner's permit,
alongwith a filled in 'Form-A', Medical Form and Rs.150 in stamps for car license). After
submitting the file, the candidates are called in for the 'sign-test' where a DSP asks 4 or 5 traffic
signs. Once that is passed, you need to do a short behind the wheel test, and on successful
completion, are given a small sheet of paper indicating your successful completion. The license
needs to be collected from the Lahore Traffic Police Licensing department next to the Kacheri
after one week of the test completion. Anyways - I'm overall satisfied with the driving test
process. It takes about 3.5 hours after an 8AM start to go through the process. It can probably
be improved by allowing people to come in all day long instead of having all people come
between 8AM and 9AM. If the rush is spread over the entire day, I believe the waiting time could
go down further.
