3D Artist

K URT WEENER :
Kurt Wenner born in Ann Arbor, Michigan is an artist best known for his realistic street
painting and chalk murals using a projection called anamorphosis. Kurt Wenner
produced his first commissioned mural at the age of sixteen. and by seventeen was
earning his living as a graphic artist. He attended both Rhode Island School of
Design and Art Center College of Design. He was employed by NASA as an illustrator
to create conceptual paintings of future space projects and extraterrestrial landscapes.
He is an artist who originally worked for NASA as an advanced scientific space
illustrator. He became very taken by the abilities of artists from the Renaissance, and he
left NASA and moved to Rome to explore the works of the great masters.

His Work :
Kurt Wenner now works in a variety of forms, and even designs houses, but one art
form he has become famous for is street painting. Kurt Wenner has combined traditional
street painting techniques together with his interest in classical art, to create an art form
all his own. Many of the images use anamorphic techniques as well as trompe l'oeil, in
order to create a world where fantasy and reality combine. Wenner works using
themes gleaned from mythology, allegory, literature and theater which
provides him with a wealth of historical stylistic and perceptual illusions.

The 3D Pavement Artists, 3D Sidewalk Artists, and 3D Chalk artists can all trace the
roots of their work back to the street art of Rome in 1982, where Kurt Wenner
transformed the complex geometry of Classical Italian Architecture into a new form of
Popular Art. Whether they are called Street Paintings, Chalk Paintings, Sidewalk
Paintings or pavement art, if they have a three-dimensional illusion they can be traced
back to Kurt Wenner pastel drawings.
