Tobacco Usage
• In FY2010 Idaho spent $2.3 million on tobacco prevention, which is 13.8% of the CDC
Annual Spending Target.1
• The CDC estimates that 52.9% of adult smokers in Idaho tried to quit smoking in 2008.2
• Idaho received $77 million in tobacco settlement payments and taxes in FY2010.3
• Idaho has not securitized any of its Master Settlement Agreement (MSA) dollars.4

Excise Tax: There is a tax of $0.57 per pack on cigarettes. All other tobacco products are
taxed by 40% of the wholesale price.
• Establishments are required to post signs stating that sales to minors are prohibited.
• Only sales clerks are allowed access to tobacco products prior to sale.
