Analysing VIBE.

The way the mid-shot image has been included on the front cover with the use of
strong eye contact makes the reader want to buy the magazine by the direct address
they are using.
The use of sell lines have included the language such as “comes clean” to portray VIBE
magazine is the first to announce the information included in the double page spread
inside. It helps sell the magazine in the way it gives off a friendly tenor and appeals to
readers as they are ahead of the news in the music industry.
A very simple image with a simple layout is used with slight editing by the shadow on
the model which I think is very effective and i may be influenced by this magazine
when making my own.
Looking at a variety of VIBE magazines the colour theme they have seem to have
chosen consists of – white, black and red. I think the simple layout and the use of the
colours chosen really reflect what audience they are aiming at, due to the R&B theme I
really think the audience it is aimed at are 16-22.

Analysis of BLENDER.

Very much like the first magazine it has very strong eye contact with the audience which
catches the potential buyers attention. Again this is down to the direct address.
It has become apparent to me that using direct eye contact with the audience is what
many magazines aim to do.
With ‘BLENDER’ magazine the sell lines have been included with a very different
approach and have used the word “free” to show to the audience they are not only
gaining the magazine at purchase they are also at an advantage.
A lack of buzz words have been included with this front cover and they use other ways to
appeal to the reader. Such as the very prominent main image of Kelly Clarkson which will
draw in the audience of both girls and boys aged from 15- 25 which a very large range.
They have used an extremely simple layout and use of colours, but this is effective as the
title and sell lines are very appealing with the contrast to the white background, very
much like VIBE. I believe the layout for both of these magazines are very mature and
even though Kelly Clarkson appeals to all ages and a variety of audiences this specific
magazine appeals to more mature audiences.
All magazines need specific conventions to sell to their audience and although I want my
magazine to have a unique edge I so need to follow the conventions for my chosen
audience when coming to produce my own.
