FACIAL RECOGNITION SYSTEM

Prepared by:

ASHISH JAIN
What is biometrics?
Physiological Biometrics
technology:

•Finger scan

•Face recognition

•Iris scan

•Retina scan

•Hand scan
behavioral biometrics technology:

•Voice scan

•Signature scan

•Keystroke scan
Why choose face recognition over other

Biometrics?
Some of the nodal points measured by the facial
recognition technology:
•distance between the eyes

• Width of the nose

•Depth of the eye sockets

•The shape of the cheekbones

•The length of the jawline

How it works:
•Capture

•Extraction

•Comparison

•Matching
(STEP 1)
ACQUIRING THE IMAGE OF AN INDIVIDUALS FACE

2 WAYS TO AQUIRE IMAGE

1) Digitally scan an existing photograph

2) Acquire a live picture of a subject
(STEP 2)
ANALYSIS OF FACIAL IMAGE

-software measures face according to is peaks

and valleys (nodal points)
-focuses on the inner region of the face
known as the “golden triangle”
-nodal points are used to make a face print
(STEP 3)
COMPARISON

-the face print created by the software is

compared to all face prints the system has
stored in its database.
(STEP 4)
MATCH OR NO MATCH

-software decides whether or not any

comparisons from step 3 are close enough to
declare a possible match
The ideal solution in various areas such
as:-
• Airports & Railway Stations
• Corporate
• Cash-Points (eg. ATM)
• Stadiums
• Public Transportation
• Voter identification
Shortcomings:
•3D models hard to construct from 2D images

• It can’t tell the difference between identical twins
