Dear Friends,
AMAF RESPONSE TO FLOOD DISASTER
IN THE EASTERN PROVINCE OF THE ISLAND OF SRI LANKA
The flood situation in the Eastern province of the Island of Sri Lanka is very serious and
getting worse by the day. Over 500,000 people have been displaced and are living in make
shift accommodations in schools, temples and churches. Please refer to the following website
to view some pictures and information: http://kizakkuvellam.blogspot.com.
People who were displaced are in need of drinking water, food, milk, clothes, mats, medicines,
bed sheets etc.
Australian Medical Aid Foundation (AMAF) took the initiative to contact Rotary Club of
Batticoloa and the Ramakrishna Mission to assess their needs. Subsequent to our
communication AMAF has received letters (attached) from the Rotary Club of Batticoloa and
the Ramakrishna Mission.
Australian Medical Aid Foundation (AMAF) has donated an initial sum of Aus. $10,000. Our
donation will be used for medical and health needs of the displaced people in the Eastern
Province through relief projects, initiated by the Ramakrishna Mission and the Rotary Club of
Batticoloa. We are closely monitoring the situation and planning to provide further financial
assistance.
The money will be spent on treating injured displaced people, prevention of infectious
diseases and providing nutritious food such as milk powder for children, pregnant women and
elderly people.
Those who wish to help the displaced people in the Eastern province please contact us on the
following phone numbers or mail your donations to the address below. All donations made to
this appeal will be dispatched immediately for the medical relief projects in the Eastern
Province, over and above the funds already donated by AMAF. Payments could be made by
