BTEC Unit 7 Advertising Production - Comparing 3 adverts for a similar product

• Choose three adverts from the selection given here and delete the rest from the
PowerPoint.

• Use any or all of these suggestions to help you label the 3 adverts

• Label any technical features you recognise e.g.. Brand name, slogan, feature image,
tagline
• Label any connotations you can think of in the image – associations of colour, setting,
posture, technique, facial expression
• Label any denotations you see
• Label any Photoshop manipulation of the image that you can spot
• Comment on the overall colour scheme of the image and the mood it creates

This advert is simple and different from most fragrance
adverts. This advert is just a picture of a bottle and cool,
calm colours, instead of having a picture of a bottle and
a picture of a person.

The bottle appears to


be on an invisible
shelf, or ‘floating’ like
a ghost, which links in
with the brand name.

The brand name and tagline are written


under the product because then you look at
the bottle then you see the brand name and
tagline which makes you remember things
quickly.
The image is unusual as it looks
like 2 images of the same
person have merged together.
This gives the connotation that
it will transport into a dream
like state.

The bottle appears to be mysteriously ‘floating’


which is unusual, as it doesn’t fit the normal
conventions as the bottle doesn’t have a flat
bottom, it is rounded, so it doesn’t look like it
has been photographed on a shelf in a studio.
