badminton is an olympic sport with five competitive disciplines : men's and women's singles, men's

and women's doubles, and mixed doubles, in which each pair is a man and a women.

the badminton equipment are racket, strings,grip,shuttlecock,and shoes. at high levels of play, the
sport demands excellent fitness : players require aerobic stamina,strength, and speed. it is also a
technical sport, requiring good hand eye coordination and the development of sophisticated racket
skills.

badminton came froma game named bartledore and shuttlecock in 16th century the game was
played in china,japan,india,and greece.this is a game where you use the battledore (a paddle) to hit
the shuttlecock back and forth. by the 18th century,it has become a populer game among children in
England. in Europe this game was known as jue devolant to them. in the 1860s, a game named
poona was played in India. this game is much like battledore and shuttlecock but with an added net.

the british army learned this game in India and took the equipments back to England during the
1870s. in 1873, the Duke of Beaufort held a lawn party in his country place, Badminton,England.A
game of poona was played on that day and became knwn as 'the badminton game'. In 1877, the
Bath badminton club was formed and developed the first official set of rules.

the International badminton Federation (IBF) was formed in 1934 with 9 founding members:
England,Ireland,Scotland,Wales,Denmark,Holland, Canada,New Zeland,France. since then, major
international tournaments like the Thomas cup (Men) and Uber cup (women) were held.badminton
was officially granted olympic status in the 1992 Barcelona games. from 9 founding members,IBF
now have over 150 member countries. the future of badminton looks bright indeed. Thomas cup and
Uber cup are the most prestigious team event in world badminton held every two years. the world
championship is the most prestigious individual events in world badminton held every year.

before the 2006 Thomas/Uber cup in japan, the official scoring format was the 15 points format. the
IBF then tested a new scoring format which is the 21 points rally format in the 2006 Thomas/Uber
cup. this 21 points rally format has since become the official one raplacing the 15 points format.
