THE THREE STOOGES

Who hasn’t listened to talk about the three stooges? Moe, Larry and Curly gave funny
moments to a generation that can’t forget the stooges’ occurrences.

The three funny guys got famous because of their way to express a peculiar violence on their
short films and present many stories where they took different characters. Their films used to
take sixteen minutes long, and the kind of comedy they showed is called slapstick.

A slapstick comedy contains physic violence that isn’t in the limits of common sense, so it
produces a not cruel fun. For example, when a man strikes a tree, or when a guy beats another
with a rock we are watching a slapstick film, and Moe, Larry and Curly were very good doing
this.

Shemp, Moe and Curly Horwitz were the last boys of five in their Jewish family. Their parents
left Lithuania and went to New York where the five children were born and grew up.

Curly loved when their older brothers used to make a scenery only for saying jokes and making
their friends laugh. No one of them was good at school because they felt passion about acting
all day. That’s how they start to show their huge talent and to work for 30 dollars a week.

At the beginning, Shemp preferred to work by himself and he got success in many films.

Moe and Curly met Larry, and all together got a job for Columbia Pictures in their famous films
The Three Stooges.
They filmed 97 chapters together since 1932 until 1949; including the first Hollywood film
against the Second World War called You Nazty Spy, which was released before Charlie
Chaplin's The Great Dictator.

In 1949, Curly suffer a stroke that prevented him to go on in The Three Stooges, and that was
the reason Shemp had to replace him in order to continue filming. Moe, Larry and Shemp
filmed 77 chapters more for Columbia.

In the next 2011, we could remember the stooges with a new movie starring by Jim Carrey as
Curly, Sean Penn as Larry and Benicio del Toro as Moe. It could be a great tribute for the three
great actors.
