Goldsworthy…an innovative British “earthscape” artist….
Goldsworthy uses an endless
array of natural materials – leaves, bark, rock, stones, feathers…to create outdoor sculpture..before the art disappears, he records his work with color photographs. Students created their own projects on the beach.. Digital Pictures & GPS points of each project were taken..
GPS = Global Positioning System
Pictures and Points • The pictures and GPS points were fed into the ArcExplorer GIS system..
…creating a Virtual Map Tour of the
projects. Project points were overlaid on a map of the Town of York… (GIS= Geographic Information Systems) A base map of the Town of York was created in the GIS system… The “triangle” represents York High School…it’s point on the map and latitude/longitude on Earth can be identified..43.155 degrees north latitude, -70.628 degrees west longitude.. The “stars” represent the art projects on the beach at the end of Webber Rd…we can zoom in on them. Just like the high school, each project’s position can be identified. Remember, the tide took these projects out to sea. They are gone!! The digital photo of each project was then “hotlinked” to the project coordinates…providing an archived picture of the long-gone project..
