Activity #4

Title: See your DNA

Objectives:

 To be able to identify the form of the DNA

 To be able to perform the extraction of the DNA to make it visible in the naked eye.
 To be able to come up with a conclusion on the DNA that we have and able to know
what is like.
Materials:

Detergent Ethanol
Salt Distilled water
2 test tubes 1 test tube rack
1 stirring rod Plastic cup

Procedures:
First in to collect some of the buccal cells that line the inside of the mouth. Swill 2
teaspoons of salt watr in our mouth for 30 seconds.
Step two spit the water in to your cup. Pour this into the test tube cantaning 1 teaspoon of
liquid detergentThen gently rock it on its side for 2-3 minutes. The detergent will treak open
the cell membrane to release the DNA into the soap solution.open and s;ightly tilt the tube
and pour 1 teaspoon of ethanol down the side of the tube so that it forms a layer on the top
of your soap solution.allow the tube to stand for 1 minute.
Place a thin glasrod into the tube then stir the rod in one direction to wind the DNA starnds
onto the rod.Be careful to minimize mixing of the eathnol and soap layer.

Results and Discussion

We had to get our own saliva put it with the detergent and mix it well after the procedure.
It was like a small stirngs that was able to see and the process to be ablt to see teh DNA
was simple. We expected to it to be hard and a lot of processs but when we did the
experiment it was simpe and able to detect our own DNA. It was nice experience becuase of
not all of us be ablt to see our own DNA.
Conclusion:
The DNA is so small that it was so har to identify the DNA becuase it was to small. It
was amazing to be able to see and make our own experiment to see and identify the DNA
that we have.
