    Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian painter known for creating the first modern abstract art. He was born in 1866 in Russia and originally studied law and economics, but began painting at age 30. Kandinsky studied painting at universities in Russia and Germany, creating only abstract, non-representational works inspired by inner beauty and music. Considered the father of modern art, Kandinsky moved to France and became a French citizen late in life.
