The Last Best West Poster Assignment

At the turn of the century, Prime Minister Laurier began a campaign to bring immigrants to
Canada to populate the west. Certain immigrants from specific countries were deemed ideal and
advertisement in these countries was started.

Assignment:

Each group must create an advertisement poster geared at attracting immigrants to Canada to
populate the west. Each group will be responsible for presenting their poster to the class, by
explaining who they are trying to attract and how they are trying to accomplish this in their
poster.

Your poster must include the following

 A campaign slogan
 Pictures
 What Canada has to offer (pull factor)
 Color
 Anything else you think would help attract immigrants.
 Remember to only attempt to attract those types of immigrants that the Canadian
government at the time thought would fit into “Canadian Society”
