Description The Cabbage Rose is a deciduous shrub with thin brown branches armed with
numerous prickles; dark green leaves and boasting large pink fragrant flowers.

Habitat The origin of the Cabbage Rose is confused but it is believed that the birthplace of
this cultivated Rose is Persia, although it is now cultivated mainly in Morocco,
Tunisia, Italy, France, Yugoslavia and China.
History & Folklore Rose traditionally associated with Venus, the Goddess of love and beauty, has
been known since antiquity for its healing virtues. Rose has also played an
essential part in the materia medica of the Middle Ages, while fulfilling its role
throughout Eastern medicine.
Cleopatra seduced Antony knee deep in Roses, while in 1187, on entering
Jerusalem, the Muslim conqueror Saladin even had the Omar mosque washed in
Rosewater to purify it.
Parts Used Fresh petals.
Constituents Rose has over 300 including citronellol, pheyl ethanol, geraniol and nerol.
Cosmetic Uses Aside from its obvious fragrant attributes the Rose can be used in a number of
cosmetic and skin care applications. Its astringent and anti-inflammatory
properties make it an excellent addition to a face tonic or cream or apply as a rose
water to tired, sore and inflamed eyes. Its powerful antiseptic properties make it a
must for hand soaps and face wash’s.
Medicinal Actions & Rose is a renowned aphrodisiac, sedative and a tonic with antidepressant
Uses attributes. Stress related conditions such as insomnia and nervous tension
benefit. Chapped, cracked, sensitive, dry and inflamed skin will benefit from Rose
due to its soothing properties. Aside from its wound healing attributes Rose is
reputed to be effective on ageing and wrinkled skin.
Precautions Rose oil is not to be used in the first three months of Pregnancy and not at all if
there is a history of miscarriage.
