    Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. and the Hammond Human Relations Commission will celebrate Black History Month on February 24th at Hammond City Hall. The event will feature performances by Maywood Elementary students and local gospel singers honoring gospel legends from yesterday and today. A proclamation will be presented by Mayor McDermott and a pictorial presentation will be unveiled of Hammond's legendary gospel musicians including Mahalia Jackson, Thomas A. Dorsey, Walter Hawkins, and Albertina Walker. An encore presentation will be held on February 25th at the Ophelia Steen Center.
