February Web Series Feature Partners in Sudan and Friends in Atlanta

The Power of Partnerships this month highlights the continuing work of the Episcopal Church of
Sudan (ECS) and its relief and development arm, SUDRA, to provide assistance to refugees and
internally displaced people who are returning to their homes in the newly created country of
Southern Sudan. In addition, to help people prepare for the referendum on independence,
dioceses of the ECS had been conducting civic education workshops explaining the process and
importance of voting, as well as the meaning of both possible outcomes.

February’s Friends of Episcopal Relief & Development celebrates the generosity of one
congregation, the Church of the Common Ground, in Atlanta, GA. Most of the congregants are
homeless and living on limited resources, but they took up a collection for Episcopal Relief &
Development in order to help others in need. Gathering donations through Advent and on
Christmas Eve, they raised enough money to purchase items from the Gifts for Life catalog,
“reaching out in peace,” as one member put it, to countries around the world.

The monthly Power of Partnerships and Friends of Episcopal Relief & Development web
features share stories about the agency’s partners in the US and worldwide. To find past

Episcopal Relief & Development is the international relief and development agency of The
Episcopal Church and an independent 501(c)(3) organization. The agency takes its mandate
from Jesus’ words found in Matthew 25. Its programs work towards achieving the Millennium
Development Goals. Together with the worldwide Church and ecumenical partners, Episcopal
Relief & Development rebuilds after disasters and empowers people by offering lasting
solutions that fight poverty, hunger and disease, including HIV/AIDS and malaria.
