MILES: It has transpired that over fifty per cent of the money given to
the Conservative party last year was from the City. Well not a
city, that would be preposterous, but from people that live in the
City. The top ten donators gave over thirteen million pounds,
what George Osborne considers “loose change”. We are joined
by Conservative MP Victoria Elliot to discuss this issue.
Welcome to the show, Victoria. (PAUSE) Should the public be
worried that so much cash is being poured into your party from
bankers?

VICTORIA: Of course not. The public need to realise that bankers are
normal – albeit extremely wealthy – people too. I see banker
bashing as horrid, some of my only friends are bankers.

MILES: Peoplebelieve that because your party is being financially

propped up by bankers, you will be soft on them. For example;
George Osborne’s bank tax has been described as
“pathetically small”.

VICTORIA: I can assure you there is nothing pathetically small about

George or his policies. What you have to realise is that we
cannot introduce such a high tax on bankers at the minute, as
many of them have less money than you expect.

MILES: And why’s that?

VICTORIA: Well, they’ve given it to the Conservative party, haven’t they?

MILES: Two of your top ten contributors have received peerages, how
do you explain that?

VICTORIA: It is a pure coincidence. Nobody highlights the fact that eight of

the top ten have not received peerages (BEAT) yet.

MILES: Isn’t it hypocritical that your party is backed by these individuals

when you previously claimed you were going to “take big
money out of politics”?

VICTORIA: That was misquoted. It was supposed to be; we are going to

“take big money for our policies”. And to be fair it is one of the
only pre-election policies we have accomplished.

MILES: How can people air their doubts about the relationship between
your party and the banks?

VICTORIA: It is very important for my party to stay in tune with the lower
class.

MILES: (INTERRUPTING) I think you mean; working class.

VICTORIA: With mass unemployment they aren’t “working” anymore. So if

there are any questions you are more than welcome to address
them to the Prime Minister.

MILES: That’s great, so anyone can get face time with Mr Cameron to
discuss these issues?

VICTORIA: As soon as they’ve donated fifty thousand pounds to the

Conservative party.

MILES: Sadly that’s all we have time for as Victoria Elliot MP is

charging the BBC for this interview and we’ve wasted far too
much money already this year taping the mouths shut of Top
Gear presenters.
