William

Shakespeare
Baptism and Family Life
 Shakespeare’s actual birth date is a mystery,
but we do know that he was baptized on April
4, 1564.
 His parents were John and Mary (Arden)
Shakespeare, and he had 7 siblings. He was
the 3rd child and the oldest son that survived
to adulthood.
 No school records have been found, but we
assume that he did go to the King’s New
School.
Marriage and Children
 When he was 18, William married the 26-
year-old Anne Hathaway. Six months later
she gave birth.
 She gave birth to a daughter, Susanna.
She later had a set of twins, Hamnet and
Judith.
 Hamnet died when he was 11.
Disappearing Act
 From 1585 to 1592, noone seemed to
know where Shakespeare was. People
wondered: Was William kidnapped? Did
he die?
 Shakespeare apparently left Stratford-
upon-Avon to join an acting and playwright
group.
His Plays
 Although there is controversy as to whether or not
Shakespeare was the actual author of many of his plays,
he is still credited for some of the greatest works of all
time. Some of his works are:
 Macbeth
 Hamlet
 Romeo and Juliet
 A Midsummer’s Night Dream
 Julius Caesar
 King Lear
Death
 William Shakespeare died on April 23,
1616 of unknown causes. He was around
52 years old.
