    Fictitious “Citibank” Scam

    Arlington police warn about an e-mail scam claiming to originate from Citibank.

    Basic Scam Information:

    § E-mail states that the e-mail was generated by the “Cit ibank” computer server
    § Indicates that it is necessary to verify your information on their website
    § Provides a URL address to click to take you to the “Citibank” website

    What can happen:

    § Trick individuals into providing personal information such as full name, credit card
    number and PIN information
    § Website has authentic appearance but the confidential information is asked to be entered
    into a small pop-up window

    Avoid becoming a victim:


    § Delete this e-mail without responding
    § When you respond to any spam e-mail it provides the sender with information that the e-
    mail address is valid
