Reporting SUGGESTIONS:

There are a number of formulas used when making

suggestions in English. Here are some of the most common:

• Why don't you / we go to the movies tonight?

• You / we could visit New York while you're / we're there.
• Let's go to the travel agent's this afternoon to book our ticket.
• What about asking your brother for help?
• How about going to Hawaii for your vacation?
• I suggest you / we take all the factors into consideration
before we decide.

We can report suggestions in two different ways:

“Let’s go to the cinema”

1.- Using a gerund to introduce the indirect sentence , after the

introductory verb.
She suggested going to the cinema.

2.- With THAT+ subject + (should) + verb in the base form.

She suggested that we should go to the cinema.

She suggested that we go to the cinema.

Note: The expression: she suggested that we should go to the cinema

is old fashioned nowadays. We omit “should “ from the sentence
in actual English.

Reporting verbs for suggestions: advise, invite, recommend,

suggest, insist, propose...
