Femin Ijtihad
Femin Ijtihad
Femin Ijtihad (translated as the critical thinking of gender-related laws and notions) is a
research initiative designed to provide Muslim women activists and N.G.Os with the
discursive and informational tools on Muslim women’s rights through the dissemination of
accessible scholarship in the form of easy-to-read summaries, reflective questions, podcasts
and an online helpline.
Chapters
Femin Ijtihad currently has chapters in the U.K, Singapore and New York including the New
York University, Columbia University, the New School University, Boston University,
Fordham University, Oxford University, Warwick University, and the National University of
Singapore.
Femin Ijtihad is planning to open a New Delhi’ Chapter and is looking for legal interns. This
online, unpaid internship will entail spending around 10-15 hours per week to thoughtfully
review and deconstruct articles and compile a content and utility analysis of each article, over
the course of about 2 months.
How to Apply
If students are interested in applying for an internship with Femin Ijtihad, they should submit
their C.V., a writing sample, and a one-page cover letter to Nishma Jethwa at
nishmajethwa@feminijtihad.org by February 20th, 2011. Short-listed candidates will be
interviewed by phone before final selection.
