Krop Senior High School 1410 County Line Road Miami, FL 33179 Dear Dr. Welker: ‘Subject: Dr. Krop High School Tennis Player Eligibility Investigation ii This office received the February 22, 2010 communication from Dr. Krop High School (DKHS), in response to an allegation received by the FHSAA, regarding the allowing of an ineligible student to participate in interscholastic tennis contests representing DKHS Background Summary, ‘The FHSAA Office received a communication alleging two students who participated in tennis representing Dr. Krop High School were ineligible due to violation of the “amateur” rule (reference Bylaw 9.9.3). The FHSAA requested Dr. Krop conduct an internal investigation of this matter and report its findings. Based on the information received, the students were not in violation of FHSAA’s amateur rules, however, the FHSAA found minor violations related to one of the students == who participated prior to being approved by the FHSAA office (Policy 17). fmmmimmp 25 determined to be an intemational student, The school failed to file the appropriate paperwork to seek approval due to the student's national status ~ « Canadian citizen. Miami-Dade does not require a visa for Canadian students to attend school, as reported by Dr. Krop. However, this provision does not apply to requirements for interscholastic athletic participation. The student participated prior to approval 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10 school years. , an international student participated during the 2009-10 school year prior to approval by FHSAA Office. ‘Whereas Bylaw 10.2 allows for the Executive Director's office to determine if the student was allowed to participate intentionally or unintentionally, the member school is expected to review the cligibility of each student-athlete prior to participation. For this reason, DKHS is held in accordance with the applicable. penalties to be assessed as failure to follow policies and procedures (Policy 41.2 item #23). However, the fact that DKHS is self-reporting this infraction will be taken into consideration.
