Interview Questions

1) An ice block submerged in the water, if the ice melts level of water
(increase,decrease,remains same,none)

2) Composition of bronze?

3) Composition of stainless steel?

4) Cast Iron is manufactured in which process?

5) Water is available at 10m height. What is the pressure available?

6) The power consumed by an electrical device is 1000W at 250V, what is the

resistance in the device?

7) Define Factor of safety.

8) What is the advantage of induction motor?

9) Cold working of metal increases which properties?

10) Pure water does not conduct electricity because it is

(a) Almost non ionized

(b) Low boiling
(c) Neutral
(d) Readily decomposed
Answers:

1) It will actually decrease. Ice is less dense than liquid water because all 4 hydrogen bonds on the
water molecule is bonded and is the reason ice floats on water. So if you submerge the ice cube,
it will melt and become denser and the liquid water level will go down.
2) Copper+zinc.
3) Iron+chromium+nickel+carbon.
4) Cupola process

5) Pressure=density*g*height;
p=1000*9.81*10;
p=98100N/m2.

6) Power= Voltage*current,

Current=Power/Voltage,
Current, I=1000/250=4
Amps. V=IR
Therefore R=250/4=62.5 ohms.

7) Yeild stress/Working stress.

8) 1} Smaller in size.
2} Light in weight.
3} Less maintenance cost.
4} Easy to repair.
5} Less sparking produced.
6} It is carbonless.
9) Increases a metal's strength and hardness while reducing its ductility.
10) Almost not ionized
