CSMA-CD (Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection) is a network access method where nodes listen first to avoid collisions, but can still occur when two nodes transmit simultaneously. When a collision is detected, both nodes stop transmitting and retransmit later. Each node on a CSMA-CD network has a unique MAC (Media Access Control) address assigned to its network card to identify the source and destination of frames.

Collision Detection CSMA-CD Characteristics of CSMA-CD • Only one PC can communicate with other PC • They keep sensing the medium • If medium is free and want to communicate with other pc they will acquire the line. • During communication only Destination PC’s will respond. • They can use the entire link like democratic • It has source address, destination address and Data. • All PCs will get frame but only destination Add PC will Accept that frame, others will discard it MAC • 00-1A-2B-3C-4D-5E • 6 byte, 48 bit, Hexadecimal address • 00-1A-2B is a manufacturer code. • MAC add is also known as BIA-Burn in address • Machine address, hardware address, Physical address, Layer 2 address • Every Network card has Unique MAC address Collision • How it is Happening Collision Detection Collision Avoidance
