(Politics and Governance (with Philippine Constitution))

I. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course comprises two main distinct yet interrelated areas of study. First, the Philippine
Government and Constitution. The former is discussed by tracing the political development of the
Philippines. The latter (Philippine Government and Constitution (, on the other hand, is discussed in
a way that students by going through the various provision and principles of 1987 Constitution, are
made familiar with the framework and structure of the Philippine government-how it operates, how
the state powers are divided and shared and exercised by the branches of the government, and how
such powers are regulated by pertinent constitutional principles enshrined in specific provisions of
the Constitution.

II. WEEKLY HOURS AND UNITS:

Lecture: 3 hours
Credit Units: 3 units

III. PREREQUISITE: None

IV. GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the semester, students are expected to:

1. Prepare students to become law-abiding citizens.


2. Know and exercise their rights with due regard for the rights of others.
3. Prepare students for their obligations and responsibilities as citizens of our republic.
4. Explain how the Philippine government has been organized, its structures and operations.

5. Discuss the political power potentials of the Philippines as a State
