SCE 550 WEEK 2 LECTURE METHOD

Today, 11 January 2011. For this week, the presenters are Hanif, Izudin and Stanley. They
present lecture as a teaching method. From their presentation, there have advantages and
disadvantages using lecture as teaching method. First advantage is the lecture method can
combine with other method such as, when use slides, the teacher can elaborate the point on the
slides and make student more understand. Second, by using lecture method, teacher can adjust
their content of delivering with the level of the students. Third, teacher will deliver content
without much preparation and can teach spontaneously.

Then, the first disadvantage of lecture method is the teacher must expert in delivering
content to the students. It becomes worse to teacher who has less knowledge. For my opinion,
lecture method will be effective if we have much knowledge and have an experience standing in
front of students without nervous. Second, while teacher give lecture, sometimes students will
not have a time to take a notes and may affect students’ attention. Next, to overcome this
situation, I suggest that to teacher give handouts or mind map as a guide to them and also to
make students know what we talking about. As a conclusion, as a teacher we must have three
criterions to make effective teaching. There are combination of knowledge, attitudes and skill.

attitude

1 a settled way of thinking or feeling. a position of the body indicating a particular mental
state.
2 informal truculent behaviour. self-confident behaviour: she snapped her fingers with
attitude.
3 the orientation of an aircraft or spacecraft.

skill

- the ability to do something well; expertise or dexterity.
