put ‘protest’
before policies

The fight for the Wentworth vote is shaping up to be
a battle of national rather than local issues.
The independent and minor party candidates,
Dani Ecuyer and Dixie Coulton, are both standing
as a ‘protest’ to major parties, their campaigns cen-
tred on climate change and the Tasmanian pulp mill.
Neither have offered policies beyond these issues.
Dani Ecuyer, founder of the eastern suburbs-
based environmental lobby group Women for
Change Alliance, announced this month that she will
be standing as an independent in protest against the
positions of the major parties on climate change and
Tasmanian forests.
“I am standing as an independent on the basis that
the two major parties in this country are so closely Shaping up for a seaside spectacle
aligned on such major issues as climate change and Bronte artist Sasha Reid is preparing for his fifth Sculpture by the Sea, with a work that

“I think there is a deep sense of disillusionment
[in Wentworth] over the lack of real choice between
the two,” she said.
