TEST 1 OP-AMP AND ITS APPLICATIONS

ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS. Show all your work. TIME: 1 HOUR

1. Consider the integrator circuit in Figure Q1. The input signal, Vi to the circuit is a 10 kHz
square wave with a peak voltage of ±1 V. Determine each of the following:
(a) Sketch and label the values of the output signal, Vo.
(b) At what frequencies will the circuit stops acting as an integrator.
(c) Sketch the output signal, Vo when it is not acting as a integrator and what is it acting
as now?
(d) Sketch and label the frequency response of this circuit and mark the cutoff
frequency.

2. Design a Schmitt trigger circuit with transfer characteristics as shown in Figure Q2 if the
feedback resistor used is 10 kΩ. Draw the input and output voltage waveform if the
input, vi (t) = 20 sin(ωt).

3. A filter shown in Figure Q3 has values of R1 = R2 = 12kΩ , C1 = 0.01µ F, C2 = 0.02µ F
and RF = 1kΩ .

(a) Explain the type and function of the filter circuit in Figure Q3.
(b) What is the order and roll-off of the circuit?
(c) Find the values of R3 if the gain is 4dB.
(d) Sketch the frequency response curve of the filter circuit and
determine the bandwidth.

(b) If vs (t) = 3 sin(ωt), sketch v 11(t), v 2(t) and v o(t) to scale versus time.
(c) If the op amps are supplied from ±15 V and clip at output voltages of ±14 V, what is
the peak value of v o(t) just at the threshold of clipping?
