Dear Premier,
The Edmonton Police Association (EPA) represents approximately 2000 members who work 24/7, 365
days a year and respond and interact with hundreds of people daily. Our members, regardless of the
circumstances, will always respond and help a citizen in need or intervene in situations where no other
Albertan or first responder will until we ensure the situation is secure and safe
The most recent protest, which was held at the Legislation grounds on February 21, 2021, was an example
of where our members were forced to interact with hundreds of protesters who were not following
Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Government of Alberta guidelines and placed themselves ina situation
where they may have been exposed to Covid-19. Furthermore, your government has set the rules and
regulation for all Albertans to adhere and you anticipate and expect the members of the Edmonton Police
and other Police members across the province to uphold,
Our members have been diligent in protecting themselves from a potential exposure however, to date
139 members either contracted or have had to isolate due to public interactions. This is 139 too many
especially when there is an opportunity to have our front-line members vaccinated. While we understand,
support, and appreciate the vaccination being provided to our elderly, medical staff, and those with
illnesses, neglecting our women and men who protect and watch over all citizens is disheartening,
disappointing, and unimaginable.
| implore you to please reconsider your stance on the current implementation of the covid-19 vaccine,
and include our Police officers to allow us to protect and assist all citizens of the province in a safe and
effective manner.
If you wish to discuss any of the aforementioned, please contact me at your convenience,
Sincerely,
Michael Elliott
