Blue Tooth Technology 1

What is BlueTooth Technology?

Blue Tooth Technology 2

Definition
The Blue tooth technology is based on open
specification that intend to enable short range
wireless for voice and data communication anywhere
in the world like the internet and mobile
communications, This technology evolved in the last
two decades .

Blue Tooth Technology 3

Origin

Bluetooth was originally developed as a project

by the Ericsson company. A number of giant
corporate are working together to develop this
technology these companies also known as the
Bluetooth special interest Group (SIG).

Blue Tooth Technology 4

Why it is named so?

Blue Tooth Technology 5

It is named for Harald Blaatand,
The king of denmark(940-981) and
Blaatand translates to Bluetooth in English

BLUETOOTH

Blue Tooth Technology 7

Bluetooth is term used to describe the protocol of a short range
(10 meter) frequency hopping radio link between devices
Bluetooth is a wireless ‘LAN’ technology to connect devices of
different functions such as
* telephones,
* notebooks,
* computers,
* cameras,
* printer,
and so on.
A bluetooth LAN is an ad hoc network which means that the
network is formed spontanesly.

The devices some time called “gadgets”. Find each
other and make a network called “piconet”. A
bluetooth LAN can even be connected to the
internet if one of the gadgets has this capability .

Blue Tooth Technology 9

Bluetooth Technology Applications

1.Peripheral Devices such as key board can

communicate with computer through this technology.

2. Conference attendees can synchronize their laptop

and computers at a conference.

Blue Tooth Technology 10

Bluetooth technology
► Today bluetooth technology is the implementation
of a protocol defined by the IEEE 802.15
standard.

Blue Tooth Technology 11

Architecture
► Blue tooth defines two type of architecture :

Blue tooth network

PICONET
 A bluetooth network is called piconet or small
net. A piconet can have upto eight stations one
of which is called the primary, The rest are
called secondaries.
All the secondaries station synchronize their
clock and hopping sequence with the primary .A
piconet can have only one primary station.

Blue Tooth Technology 13

PICONET
► Although a piconet can have a maximum of seven
secondaries, an additional eighth secondary can
be in parked state .A secondary in a parked state
is synchronized with the primary,but can not take
part in communication until it is moved from
packed state .because only eighth station can be
active in a piconet,activating a station from
parked state means that an active station must go
to parked state.

Scatternet
► Piconet combine to form Scatternet .A secondary
station in one piconet can act as the primary
station for other piconet. This station can receive
messages from the primary station of the first
piconet and can deliever it to secondary station
of the second piconet.

PHISYCAL LINKS
► Two types of links can be created between a
primary station and secondary station :

• Synchronus Connection Oriented Link (SCO) .

• Asynchronus Connectionless Link (ACL) .
