Introduction

Over the past 20 years Illustration art has changed a lot and has

become increasingly distinct, constantly pushing boundaries. Today, with the

emergence of technology it is one of today's fastest growing creative disciplines.

It is consumed not only through books and posters but infiltrates every area of

our life. Illustrated image has endured in the face of technological advances, and

it is becoming a prominent force in advertising of many kinds.

The purpose of this study is to show how the art form known as

digital illustration has changed the way fashion is being advertised today. The

research will attempt to examine how much techniques have changed since the

evolution of digital media. Firstly, the history of both: fashion advertising and

illustration will be briefly overviewed. There are many new possibilities

available to the illustrators today and new ways that Internet and digital devices

provide for illustration to be presented. Therefore, it is essential to look at and

compare works of several artists and several styles from the past as well as those

that are being used in recent advertising campaigns.

Secondly, the role of illustration in promoting brands and retail stores

will be explored as well as the evolution of artists who have combined traditional

media and modern technology to create visually stimulating campaigns.

Lastly, the research will attempt to ascertain that digital media has created a

trend of using sophisticated illustrative imagery instead of the photographic
