Call WA Senate Leadership Now to Oppose Driver's License Bill

Did you see our facebook post and tweet yesterday about bill SB5407?

Bills like SB5407 undermine public safety and represent misguided attempts to fix our broken
immigration system. Our leaders need to know that scapegoating immigrants will not solve our
economic crisis. Will you help us spread the word?

Please call:

- Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown at (360) 786-7604

- Senator Tracey Eide at (360) 786-7658

and tell them that you oppose SB5407.

SB5407 would create a two-tiered driver's license system in Washington, requiring employees of the
Department of Licensing to determine the immigration status of any resident of our State who is
applying for a drivers license.

If the licensing official does not believe that a resident has status, that resident's license will be marked
"Not valid for identification purposes."

Publicizing perceived status in this way could deter undocumented immigrants from becoming licensed.
We believe that classifying people in this way promotes racial profiling and could create a new group of
unlicensed and uninsured drivers, undermining public safety.

Over the next few days, Washington State legislative leaders will decide which bills are priorities for this
session. Please call the Senate leadership and tell them that you oppose SB5407!
