SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR THE FOLDING TYPE AND PAN TYPE HATCH

COVERS

1. The eccentric wheels and the balancing wheels should be checked for wear and
tear of the bush, pin and attachment with the hatch cover panel. Makers manual
should be consulted for wear and tear allowable parameters and should be
renewed if required.
2. The length of towing chain between each panel should be as per maker’s manual
if the data is unavailable then the sag should be equal to approximately a fist
width at the mid point as shown.

3. Any damaged packing should be renewed as shown and minimum 1 meter length
should be renewed. A scarf insert will hold the packing in position.
 4. The safety locking devices for individual pontoon should be in good working
condition.

5. On vessels with tween deck covers should be regularly checked for deformation,
cracks and corrosion because they are in mid air without any bottom support and take the
weight of cargo and forklifts. Prior any forklifts are allowed on tween deck covers it
should be made sure that the load density is not bypassed.
