ABSTRACT

What is a DUAL CORE Processor?

➢ Dual-core refers to a CPU that includes two complete execution
cores per physical processors.
➢ It has combined two processors and their caches and cache
controllers onto a single integrated circ(silicon chip).
➢ Dual core processors are well-suited for multitasking environments
because there are two complete execution cores instead of one,
each with an independent interface to the front side bus.
History:-
➢ In 2005, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Intel introduced their
desktop dual-core processors to consumers. Both manufacturers
began designing dual-core processors because they found it difficult
and expensive to increase the clock frequency in processors without
the chips overheating.
➢ They began developing new technology to increase the size of the
internal L2 cache. The L2 cache is integrated with the processor chip
and normally runs faster than the speed of the motherboard. When
your computer needs data, it searches for information stored in the
memory caches on the processor.
TYPES OF DUAL CORE PROCESSOR :-
The Dual core processors are available in all three series at
speeds ranging from 1.8GHz(x65) to 2.8GHz(x80):

➢ 100 Series: 165, 170, 175, and 180

➢ 200 Series: 265, 270, 275, and 280

➢ 800 Series: 865, 870, 875, and 880

CONCLUSION:

Dual core processor is the innovation in Microprocessors and this

shows the future for Multi core processors.
