Chapter 1

The Problem and Its Background


Introduction
There is no period in history that education is not important.
Education (etymology). Regardless of the state of living, people see
education as a necessary tool for survival and a great life.
High School life and college life are like salt and sugar. They
look alike but, in fact, they totally differ in taste. They both let
students obtain different information, knowledge and experiences
but they differ in three things; the scope of educational learning of
an individual, the degree of social interaction required in studying
and living through the educational phase, and the application of the
skills and knowledge acquired in the learning process.

Background of the Study

Statement of the Problem


The main problem of this study was to determine the factors
that affect the preparedness of Antipolo Faith Christian School’s
Fourth Year High School students in entering the college life during
the School Year 2010-2011.
Specifically, it attempted to answer the following questions:
1. What were preparations that the subjects do in terms of
1.1 physical survival,
1.2 financial survival,
1.3 social survival,
1.4 psychological survival, and
1.5 spiritual survival
in the college world?
2. What do the subjects expect in their college life?
3. Does the school have the adequate
3.1 academic instruments,
3.2 facilities, and
3.3 activities
for the students?
4. Is there any significant change that must be done to
prepare the Fourth Year High School students better in this
school?
5. What problems will the subjects encounter when they step
in to their college life?

Significance of the Study


Being prepared for college life removes or lessens the
difficulty of students in adapting to the new environment.

The main purpose of this study was to determine the factors


that affect the preparedness of Antipolo Faith Christian School’s
Fourth Year High School students in entering the college life during
the School Year 2010-2011 with the intention of benefiting both
present as well as future Fourth Year High School students and their
teachers.
