Pancake
Pancake
Pancake Tuesday (Shrove Tuesday) is celebrated in many English speaking countries. This
day is always celebrated on Tuesday - one day before Ash Wednesday. Next day there is
the beginning of Lent. This is the time when we remember the forty days Jesus spent in
the desert.
Many years ago during Lent people didn’t eat sugar, butter; milk and eggs. Pancakes are
made of these ingredients so it was last day to eat them.
People often spend this day with fun, games and eating pancakes with their families or
friends in homes or restaurants.
In many English cities “pancake races" are organized. Participants run and carry the
pancake in the frying pans. All runners must toss their pancakes as they run and catch
them in the frying pans.
