Suitability of having Rumpelstiltskin

as part of prescribed text for the

literature component

Ashraf’s Part
Strengths
• Teaches many moral values from the
characters for each character has their own
flaws:
– The King: Do not be greedy
– Lisa’s Father & Mother: Do not brag, never tell lies,
do no cheat others.
– Lisa: Always keep your promise.
Weaknesses
• The story’s major weakness is that Lisa didn’t fulfill
her promise that she made to Rumpelstiltskin to
give her first born baby to him, but she gets away
with it and in the end, Rumpelstiltskin turns out to
be a victim when Lisa found out his name.
• By using this fairy tale in the literature component,
students may be misunderstand that if they break
a promise, there will always be a way to get away
with it.
• To overcome this weakness, teachers must
carefully guide the students when teaching
this fairy tale. The teachers must take note of
these kind of weaknesses in the literary text
they are using to teach and explain to the
students which actions done by the characters
are not to be done, in the same time instilling
the good moral values from the text.
