Title : Cell structure

Exercise 1 : Human and animal cell structures

Objectives :

1. To learn and know the organelle and structure of cells.

2. To learn the differences between animal cell and plant cell.
3. To learn the techniques of preparing the slaid.

Result :

1. Onion cell

2. Elodea sp cell
3. Cheek cell

4. Prepared animal cells

Sycllium dogfish – skin with placoid scales

White blood cells

Discussion :

1. Animal cells consist of cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus.

2. Plant cells consist of nucleus, vacuole, cell wall, chloroplast, cytoplasm.
3. Both animal and plant cells have nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane.

Conclusion :

Nucleus is an important organelle in a cell. This is because, nucleus controls all cell’s
activities. It separates the genetic material from the cytoplasm. Cell membrane is another
organelle in a cell. Cell membrane separates a cell from its external environment. It also
controls the exchange of molecules between the cell and its external environment
through active transport, passive transport and simple diffusion. Cytoplasm present in
both plant cell and animal cell. Cytoplasm gives shape to a cell. It also supports and
protects the cell organelles. Plant cells have fixed shape compared to animal cells due to
the presence of cell wall in plant cells. Plant cells are able to make their own food due to
the presence of chloroplasts. There are chlorophyll in chloroplasts that give the green
colour in plants.
