    PHIVOLCS observed a magnitude 6.8 earthquake near the east coast of Honshu, Japan at 1:46PM on March 11, 2011 at a depth of around 10 km. This triggered a tsunami that could reach the Philippines. PHIVOLCS raised Tsunami Alert Level 2 for areas along the east coast and advised people in threatened communities to move inland from 5-7PM. Initial sea level data showed maximum wave heights ranging from off-scale in Ofunato to 0.04m in Tosashimizu, with waves expected to arrive between 3:52PM to 5:16PM. PHIVOLCS will provide further tsunami sea level updates as new information becomes available.
