Grand Re-Opening Celebration For The Allen House Senior Residences
Grand Re-Opening Celebration For The Allen House Senior Residences
made possible with the combination of a HUD Loan 202/223f with Section 8 for $8,102,112 Alberta Allen
Director
and a District of Columbia Department of Environment grant of $410k. All building
systems and amenities have been upgraded and modernized — residential units and
appliances, the roof, HVAC, the laundry room and common areas, and the parking lot.
Allen House Apartments grew out of the dream and vision of the late Dr. Willie B. Allen
Senior and his son, Rev. Vincent E. Allen, Pastor of the Upper Room Baptist Church. In
1987, the Allen’s shared goal was realized: They began a project that would enhance and
ensure a dignified quality of life for the elderly and disabled by providing a safe, secure, clean,
state-of-the-art residential environment in Ward 7. The original building was made possible
with $5.5 million loan from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The
residential building opened in 1991 under the management of the Upper Room Housing
Corporation Inc. and has been a catalyst for development in the area ever since.
As a neighboring Ward 7 resident remarked, the 2011 renovation of Allen House has
provided a “facelifting” for the local community. Please join us as we give thanks to all
our development partners and celebrate Upper Room Housing Corporation’s commitment
to providing quality low- and moderate-income housing in the Nation’s Capital for many
decades to come.
