ABOUT OBEROI
 The Oberoi Group, founded in 1934, operates 35 hotels and three
cruisers in five countries under the luxury ‘Oberoi’ and five-star
‘Trident’ brands.

 The Oberoi Group of Hotels is India’s second largest hotel company.

 The Group is also engaged in flight catering, airport restaurants, travel


and tour services, car rentals, project management and corporate air
charters

 A distinctive feature -highly motivated and well trained staff that


provides the kind of attentive, personalized and warm service that is
rare today.

 Leisure hotels in India - The Oberoi Rajvilas(Jaipur); The Oberoi


Amarvilas,(Agra); Wildflower Hall(Shimla) in the Himalayas.

 Overseas, The Oberoi, Lombok in Indonesia, The Oberoi, Mauritius and


The Oberoi, Sahl Hasheesh in Egypt. The Oberoi Zahra, Luxury Nile
Cruiser, Egypt was launched in 2007.

 The Group employs environmental and ecological practices in
technology, equipment and operational processes.

the mentally and physically challenged.

HISTORY
 Rai Bahadur Mohan Singh Oberoi was born on 15th August, 1898.


He is regarded as the father of 20th century India's hotel business .
 He started his hotel career as a clerk in the Cecil hotel in Shimla &
soon became an assistant to the manager.

 After his retirement in 1934 with the help of family resources he


purchased the hotel

 This is how the first Oberoi Hotel came up in Shimla which he


named as ‘The Oberoi Cecil Hotel.
HISTORY
 In the year 1938, Mr. Oberoi acquired The Grand in Kolkata.

 The hotel, had been empty for years, due to death of over a hundred
foreigners who were guests during the cholera outbreak.

 The hotel was refurbished and the following year, 1939, at the start of
World War II, 1500 beds were made available to the British Army, as
thousands of troops filled Kolkata.

 By 1941, M. S. Oberoi was becoming well known in the hotel business and,
in recognition of his services to the industry in time of war, Indian
authorities bestowed on him the title of Rai Bahadur.

 This was the start of what we today know as the Oberoi Empire.

 The Oberoi Rajvilas,in Jaipur, has won two of international hospitality industry's
most prestigious awards.

 Renowned British society magazine Tatler has accorded The Oberoi Rajvilas
"Hotel of the Year 2001" amongst 101 other hotels from across the globe
competing for this title.

 Celebrated American Society magazine, Town & Country has awarded The Oberoi
Rajvilas "The Best Exotic Hotel“

 The Oberoi, New Delhi and The Oberoi, Mumbai, leading business hotels of
The Oberoi Group have both been conferred the much coveted "Best Business
Hotel" award for the Year 2001 by Business Traveler Asia Pacific
Awards & Achievements
 In 2002, The Oberoi, Mauritius won an international award launched for
the first time by Harpers & Queen.
Mauritius was declared in the Hotel/Resorts category featuring “150 Best
Places on Earth”.

 In 2003 Gallivanters Guide - a prestigious travel publication, adjudged The


Oberoi Rajvilâs, Jaipur as the Fourth Best Inland Resort in the world.
Andrew Harper's Hideway Report also recently declared, The Oberoi
Rajvilâs, Jaipur as the 'Grand Award Winner' at the 23rd Annual Hotel of
the Year Competition.

 In 2004, eighty-five spas worldwide were certified as the leading spas in


the world out of which eleven spas were Oberoi spas. Which include the
spas at Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Udaipur, Agra, Mauritius, Egypt, Bali, Lombok,
Ranthambore, Indonesia.
Awards & Achievements
 In 2005, The Oberoi Udaivilas, has received the highest rating for service
amongst all hotels in the world in Condé Nast Traveller, The Gold List. It
has received an exceptional score of 97.49 for service, placed ahead of last
year’s best, the legendary Copacabana Palace, Rio de Janeiro.

 In 2006, Two Oberoi hotels have been ranked among the 10 best in the
world. 'Oberoi' is rated the 3rd best hotel chain in the world (for hotels
outside the US), placing it ahead of Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton.

 In 2007, The Oberoi Group score highest overall score of 94.36 a first by
receiving top honours in Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards, July 2007

 In 2008,The Oberoi Rajvilas, Jaipur; The Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur and


The Oberoi Amarvilas, Agra have been rated 2nd, 4th and 6th
respectively. The Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards are acknowledged
amongst the most revered rankings in the international travel industry.

 The company’s performance during the financial year 2008-2009 had not
been as good as in the previous year. The Total Revenue was Rs.
1073.06 crores as compared to Rs. 1155.11 crores in the previous
year.

 The Profit before Tax was Rs. 273.26 crores as compared to Rs.
349.84 crores in the previous year. The Profit after Tax was Rs.
170.44 crores as compared to Rs. 217.23 crores in the previous year.

The company had declared a Dividend of Rs. 1.20 per share.

 The results of the first quarter of this year, too, were reflective of the
difficult business environment. The Total Income for the first quarter was
Rs. 218.10 crores as compared to Rs. 253.12 crores in the previous
year. The Profit after Tax was Rs. 19.05 crores as compared to Rs.
38.01 crores in the previous year.
