TITLE:

Layout study of Engg. Mechanics Laboratory.

OBJECTIVES:

1. To get awareness about the features of the laboratory.

2. To get knowledge about the placement of various instruments in the

laboratory.

APPARATUS:

The apparatus used is:

1.MEASURING TAPE:

1. It is made of woven linen and varnished to resist moisture.

2. It is of the length 30 meters.

3. It is generally used for ordinary work.

2. STEEL TAPE:

1. It is made of steel ribbon.

2. It is of the length 5 to 6 meters.

3. It is used for fine measurements of the cupboard.

RELATED THEORY:

1.MODEL OF A SIMPLE JIB AND CRANE: Reactions and forces in tie and jib of a
simple jib crane model by analytical, experimental and graphical methods.

2. APPARATUS FOR THE VERIFICATION OF PRINCIPLE OF MOMENTS: It is used to

verify the principle of moments in Engg. Mechanics Lab experimentally.

2a. SIMPLY SUPPORTED BEAM WITH BALANCES AND VARIABLE LOADING

ARRANGEMENT: It is used to study the forces as well as the reactions produced
in a simply supported beam.

3. HANGING ROPE WITH VARIOUS LOADING POINTS AND SPRING BALANCES: It is

used to determine the tension in various parts of hanging rope loaded at various
points.

5. APPARATUS FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE CO EFFCIENT OF FRICTION: It

is used to verify the laws of friction and to verify the co-efficient of friction of
various mediums.

GENERAL THEORY:
*DEFINITION OF LAYOUT:

In a plane orientation, placement and arrangement of different laboratory things

w.r.t. the direction of north in laboratory, is called “laboratory layout”.

COMMENTS:

1. The teaching methodology is very good.
