INTRODUCTION

 3G services combine high speed mobile

access with Internet Protocol IP-based
services.
 But 3G is not just about applications that
require high speed data rates. It’s about
convienience and speed of access
HISTORY

 NTT DoCoMo already launched the world's

first commercialised third-generation "FOMA"
mobile communication service on October 1,
2001. "FOMA" is the name used in Japan for
NTT DoCoMo's 3G service.
 . The 3G licensing process has Completed in
many countries in Europe, and the first
wideband radio networks are expected to
enter commercial operation in 2002.
FIRST GENERATION
 Advanced Mobile Phone Service-

An AMP was developed by Bell Labs to replace

older, severely limited radiophone services,
such as IMTS. AMPS was one of the first
modern cellular phone systems, which
remained in operation until 2008
SECOND GENERATION

GLOBAL SYSTEM FOR MOBILE COMMUNICATION

• GSM differs from its predecessor technologies

in that both signaling and speech channels
are digital, and thus GSM is considered a second
generation 2G mobile phone system. This also
facilitates the wide-spread implementation of
data communication applications into the
system.
THIRD GENERATION

Wideband Code Division Multiple Access :-

 It is the basis of Japan'sNTT
DoCoMo's FOMA service and the most-commonly
used member of the UMTS family and sometimes
used as a synonym for UMTS. It utilizes the DS-
CDMA channel access method and
the FDD duplexing method to achieve higher speeds
and support more users compared to most time
division multiple access (TDMA) schemes used
today.
 Interim Standard 95 (IS-95) :-

 is the first CDMA-based digital cellular

standard by Qualcomm. The brand name for
IS-95 is cdmaOne. IS-95 is also known as
TIA-EIA-95
 CDMA or "code division multiple access" is
a digital radio system that transmits streams
of bits (PN codes). CDMA permits several
radios to share the same frequencies.
Time Division Synchronous:-
 Code Division Multiple Access (TD-
SCDMA) or UTRA/UMTS-TDD 1.28 Mcps
Low Chip Rate (LCR), i an air interface
 found in UMTS mobile
 telecommunications networks in China as an
alternative to W-CDMA. Together with TD-
CDMA, it is also known UMTS-TDD or IMT
2000 Time-Division (IMT-TD
