NO home DEHYDRATION • Advise the mother when to return immediately • Follow up in 5 days if not improving Two of the following signs • Give fluid, zinc supplement and food for some diarrhea • Restless, irritable SOME • Determine the amount of ORS to give during first 4 hours • Sunken eyes DEHYDRATION • Show mother how to give ORS • Drinks eagerly, thirsty • Give zinc (for 2mos to 5 yrs) • Skin pinch goes back very • Continue feeding slowly • When to return Two of the following signs • Give fluid for severe dehydration • Lethargic or unconscious SEVERE • Refer urgently to hospital with mother giving frequent ORS • Sunken eyes DEHYDRATION on the way • Not able to drink or drinking • If child is 2 yrs or older and there is cholera in your area poorly give antibiotics for cholera • Skin pinch goes back very slowly
