HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT (HSE) - IMPORTANT ASPECT FOR

EFFECTIVE PROJECT MANAGEMENT .

Addressing a health and safety of human resources in a project is always treated as regulatory
burden whereas it is not so. It offers significant benefits and opportunities to Project success
which includes :

2. Improved relationship among stakeholders - high standing with client and suppliers
3. Provides platform to demonstrate good corporate governance among investors, customers
and communities
4. Increase in productivity factor
5. Creating better HSE environment resulting into employees well being , high motivation
among employees and they feel happier.
All legislative requirement in line with Safety standards, OSHAS are framed by all countries to
safeguard the Health and safety of human resources and protection of society as well as world
from environmental impact . Health and safety of human resources is integral part to any
Project success. The attitudes towards health and safety are determined by the Organization top
bosses , Project Manager and team members as HSE expectations of each project varies .
The Project objective of ensuring zero percent accident or 100 % achievement of
maintaining highest standard of health and safety management cannot be achieved without
active participation of all stakeholders .
Hence the introduction of “Project HSE Management” as one among the management
area is need of the hour globally to achieve Project success. Integration and management
of HSE knowledge area from project conception through all phases of project development
(The initiation to closing process) will ensure that project goals are met without compromising
safety or the environment.
Various aspect of HSE management are :
1. Introduction of HSE policies and management systems in project document All industries
and Organizations are set to form their own HSE policies in line with International
standards and to be implemented in all their project endeavors-

2. Introduction of well defined policies on safety should be documented and to be part of the
HSE plan and to be integrated with project Management Plan

3. Ensuring delivery of Health and Safety system during project execution and to maintain.

4. A strong system of monitoring and control mechanism should be in place to review

periodically the HSE reports and system placement in projects.
