Catching the Dandiya Fever

Aao re Aao re Aao re Maro Dolna…………………………..


The fast and furious rhythmic beats with clattering of stick and
electrifying flow of colorful lights in musical night of Dandiya, so
the fever begins in Navratri yet again. Infect Dandiya is a
mesmerizing poetry of Indian traditions and culture in tune to
palpable the festival and celebration.
Historically, it is considered this dance form is
between the Goddess Durga and Mahishasura, so also
nicknamed as “The Sword Dance”. The sticks of the
dance represent the sword of Durga However with
the course of time; it is imbibed over all part of India.
In a starry night, twinkling glass bangles hands
whirling the ghunghurooz Dandiyas, it jingling sound of stick
attract others attention towards Dandiya. People whirled and
moved their feet and arms in a Rhythmic tracks like Aao padahro
mare desh ……., Chand aaya hai jami par aaj garbhe ki raat
hai……………., and many more were played to captivate the
crowd, dressed in colourful ethnic attire, to hit the floor.
The uniqueness of Dandiya, for those who have entered even once
in the magnetic range of its enticement from the rest of its use of
color, magical sticks as its dress code; the massive number of
dancer in any single program with no age bar, it is poetry par
excellence. Dandiya relations with the nomad’s life , as originally
performed only by men with long stick in their hands for
practicing the footwork of sword fighting .However it has shed the
narrow religious doctrine flavor and has acquired a universal
dynamism; it is now performed not just by rituals people, but by
everyone who wants to shake a leg.

Dandiya enlaced with its entire color, utmost zeal and gusto has
now crossed all the galleries, boundaries, premises and country
borders while reaching the western world to attract people from
other cultures, doctrine and nationalities,
