Information given:

 There are total 6 areas and 3 schools

 The bussing costs from different areas to different schools are given with some restriction in
bus moment
 The total no. of student available in each area and also the total capacity of the each school are
given
 Each school has 3 grade and in each grade must constitute between 30-36% of total population
of school
 % of student available from each sector for different grade is available

Problem:
Assist the school board in determining how many students in each area should be assigned to
each school keeping the bussing cost minimum.

Solution:
Let X11: No. of student allocated from Area-1 to School-1
X12 : Area-1 to School-2
X13 : Area-1 to School-3
X21 : No. of student allocated from Area-2 to School-1
X22: Area-2 to School-2
X23: Area- to School-3
X31: No. of student allocated from Area-3 to School-1
X32: Area-3 to School-2
X33: Area-3 to School-3
X41: No. of student allocated from Area-4 to School-1
X42: Area-4 to School-2
X43: Area-4 to School-3
X51: No. of student allocated from Area-5 to School-1
X52: Area-5 to School-2
X53: Area-5 to School-3
X61: No. of student allocated from Area-6 to School-1
X62: Area-6 to School-2
X63: Area-6 to School-3

e) Option.1
For reducing bussing cost if the school board eliminate bussing cost for student traveling with in
1-1.5 miles (cost per student is $200 according to table)
So here in objective function of part(a), the coefficient of X 33 & X41 will zero keeping all other
constant.
So by resolving part(a) we will get:
The reduction in cost by this elimination is=

$543800 - $397000= $146800

Suggestion-
By comparing with part(c)

f) Option.2
For reducing bussing cost if the school board eliminate bussing cost for student traveling with in
1.5-2 miles (cost per student is $300 according to table)
So here in objective function of part(a), the coefficient of X 11, X32 & X62 will zero keeping all other
constant.
So by resolving part (a) we will get:
The reduction in cost by this elimination is=

$543800 - $524149.63 = $19650.37

Suggestion-
By comparing with part(c)
