CVD Prevention and Control Program Evaluation and Basic Statistics Internship April 1, 2011 to June 30, 2011 (potential to extend further) Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death in NYC, regardless of race/ethnicity or gender. The CVD Prevention and Control Program in the New York City Department of Health seeks to reduce and prevent cardiovascular disease in New York City through multi-faceted approaches that promote screening, improve disease management, ensure the availability of services and programs, and address the risk factors underlying much of CVD: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, etc, Position Description: The CVD Prevention and Control Program is seeking an intern to assist in the evaluation of ‘commurity-based interventions. Interns working with us would have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced applied research environment, to learn about the importance of CVD and to assist with data analyses. Responsibilities: - Data cleaning of selected databases - Analyses of data to address program objectives - Write-up of results - Development and revision of tables for conveying results - Delivery via presentation to the CVD program staff - Development of statistical programs for future use - Other related duties, as needed An ideal candidate will have: - Completed their first year in Master's level epidemiology or statistics program © Doctoral student preferred Demonstrated skills in data collection and analysis Background in or experience with program evaluation and community health promotion and education - Candidate must have knowledge of at least one of the following statistical programs SAS, STATA or SPSS Ability to work full-time for time period above Previous knowledge of CVD a plus All interested candidates, please submit cover letters and resumes to Dr. Stella Yi, Ph.D., MPH syi@heaith nye.gov
